This week, the preschoolers created their own little neighbourhood - the Busy Bees Community! Using pictures of different buildings and amenities, the students thought about and planned where to place them in the community. They also used pictures of some of the community helpers that we find providing a service or working in our communities. Using their thinking skills, the preschoolers felt that there were some buildings and community helpers that were missing, so they drew pictures to add them to our community map.
One of the missing buildings was a vet, and it was perfectly timed that we had a visit to an animal clinic in our school's community scheduled for this week, to find out more about what a veterinarian's role and responsibilities are.
The preschoolers were able to see the vet examine an animal and they got to ask the doctor a list of questions, to learn more about his responsibilities. When the preschoolers asked him, what do you think would happen if there was no one in the community to fulfil his role as a vet, the doctor said that so many animals would go untreated and get very sick and if animals don't get the treatment they need, they can make people sick, too.
The preschoolers were intrigued by this, as their knowledge grew in understanding that vets don't just help our pets but they also help keep us people safe and healthy, too!
With great excitement, the preschoolers visited the Osaka Science Museum for a day of learning and discovery! They enjoyed the planetarium presentation and exploring the interesting displays.
